Well if you have a fantasy football team, your team name helps identify you. Are you creative, witty, have a good sense of humor? Or are you unimaginative, just plain blah and everyone thinks you are boring? You might be a pervert and base your team name on your interest in those areas. You might choose something generally offensive, as seems to be the current trend. Some of us like to use our team names to brag as well, perhaps on how we will injure or destroy the other teams in our league until a fantasy football championship has been won. On the opposite end, we might use our fantasy team name to announce what a loser we are.
In the early days of fantasy football, most used a variation of their own name or nickname. This is still used today, with mixed results. These are generally uncreative and very generic. Something like “Bill’s Superbowl Champs”. If you have a good imagination you can sometimes make this work. Some like to incorporate their hometown or their favorite NFL team, sometimes both, like The Evansville Cowboys. Again, generic and boring. Still others choose based on their favorite Sci-Fi show or book, usually an obscure character or planet so they can feel smarter than others that don’t know what they are talking about. These can range on a scale from pretty cool to extremely lame, usually leaning towards the lame end of the scale. Yes, knowing more about Sci-Fi makes you superior to the rest of us.
